Controversial Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has revealed he is taking an extended break from the show.

Piers, 52, fronts the ITV breakfast series on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings – but today was his last day for “a long time”.

He broke the news after his co-presenter Susanna Reid joked that he was “only happy because you’re going away for a short break”.

“I’m going to film more for my Serial Killer series. I won’t be back for a long time now so you can relax,” the columnist and presenter revealed.

It actually won’t be that long; Piers will only be off British television for two weeks – just like he was last year when he flew over to the US to film the first series.

Good Morning Britain continues weekday mornings from 6am on ITV.
