Former Big Brother housemate Rebekah Shelton has not died after all, following a statement appearing on her official account this morning ‘confirming’ the news.
Rebekah, 32, took part in Big Brother 2009 on Channel 4 when she was still Rodrigo Lopes – and finished the show in fifth place.
News of Rebekah’s ‘death’ broke on Twitter in the early hours of this morning (Friday, January 12).
An official statement posted to her Twitter account read: “We’re sorry to inform everyone of the sad news that our wonderful and lovely Rebekah died unexpectedly on Wednesday night. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
However, Rebekah has posted a video to her Twitter account to explain that she is alive and well, and that a hacker gained access to her account and posted the tweet.
In the video, she says: “Please stop spreading the news that I’m ‘dead’, because I am clearly not.
“I’ve been through hell today, someone used my Twitter account to write that stupid status about me.
“This person can’t accept that I’m happy, that I overcame all my problems, and that I’m finally living my life happily.”
Rebekah went on to say that she is currently on holidays.
I’m not dead!!!!!! Please stop spreading this news!!!!! My lawyer is already working on this and this person who wants to spoil my happiness is going to pay for it!!!!! pic.twitter.com/6PEzjjEGye
