It’s been confirmed that EastEnders character Johnny Carter will be written out of the soap, after actor Ted Reily’s decision to leave.
Ted Reily first joined EastEnders back in 2016 when he reprised the role of Johnny Carter – after actor Sam Strike rejected the offer to return.
But Ted has decided to bow out of the BBC soap, admitting “It was a really tough decision to leave” but he wants to explore new things.
The star took to Twitter to thank fans for their support, tweeting: “Thank you for all your lovely messages regarding EE! It was a really tough decision to leave, but at this stage in my career it’s very important to keep being challenged & experience new things! I’ll miss the amazing people on the square especially my Carter clan!”
A spokesperson for EastEnders also officially confirmed his departure.
They said: “We can confirm Ted has finished filming with EastEnders and wish him all the best for the future.”
Ted joins Harry Reid in leaving the soap next year, after the on screen mechanic decided to quit his role as Ben Mitchell.
EastEnders continues on BBC One.
