ITV’s This Morning has taken to social media after receiving backlash for axing a father and daughter who were booked to appear yesterday and share their mental health story.

Brian and his daughter Ellie were supposed to appear on the This Morning sofa yesterday (November 27) but they were axed at the last minute.

Because of news breaking of Prince Harry’s engagement to actress Meghan Markle, the ITV magazine shows’ schedule was thrown out the window.

This Morning booked the pair after Ellie posted this heartfelt message on social media: “This year began with my dad mentally suffering depression and suicide attempt.

“Today he ends the year starting his new career in becoming a recovery support worker. Words can’t describe how proud we are #breakthestigma It’s okay not to be okay.”

However it seems the Royal Engagement news was more of a priority, with Ellie tweeting that “the royal wedding will go ahead however mental health issues will always remain”.

After thousands of people retweeted and voiced their anger at This Morning, the show has issued a statement, which says: “Unfortunately due to yesterday’s breaking news, we had to reschedule some of our planned features.

“Ellie and Brian had prior commitments this week, but we have extended an open invitation so they can share their story with us when they next become available.”
