Britain’s Got Talent presenter Ant McPartlin has been receiving nothing but support on social media since the news broke of his depression and addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol.

Ant, 41, has checked himself into rehab after admitting he had a problem with drugs and alcohol to his family and close friends over the last week.

“I need help, mate. I need help now,” he reportedly told Declan Donnelly. It’s understood that Dec had been aware to a certain extent that Ant had problems but he was taken aback when Ant revealed how bad things really were.

Once Dec had been told he immediately started contacting counsellors and arranging help for his friend.

A source said:  “Dec is determined to do everything possible to help Ant, he won’t just leave him to sort out his own problems. It would have been easy for Dec to worry about their brand and the damage this could do to their careers but he didn’t think about that at all — he cares about Ant as a friend and wants to help him.”

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Ant said he thinks he’s let a lot of people down but also acknowledged that he has spoken out and is receiving help –  which is the important thing.

“I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I am truly sorry. I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends for helping me through this really difficult time.

“I’ve spoken out because I think it’s important that people ask for help if they’re going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery.”

Celebrities flock to social media to wish Ant well and praise him for is courage

Lord Alan Sugar took to Twitter to wish Ant luck, writing: “Very brave Ant to go public. This is the first stage of the road to recovery. All the best Ant, it will all be sorted for sure.”

Dame Kelly Holmes joined the entrepreneur in his praise, commenting: “As I say at every speech I do, we are all human! Best wishes to Ant @antanddec You will come back stronger, your fans love you #itsgoodtotalk.”

Actor Noel Clarke wrote on Twitter: “You’re loved Ant. Keep ya chin up Pal…Clarke.”
