Ant McPartlin – one half of TV duo Ant and Dec – has checked himself into rehab for substance and alcohol abuse, according to reports.

41-year-old Ant fronts ITV shows I’m A Celebrity, Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway alongside best mate Declan Donnelly.

According to The Sun newspaper, Ant shocked his close family and best mate Dec this week when he revealed that he had problems with substance abuse, prescription drugs and booze.

“I need help, mate. I need help now,” he reportedly told Declan Donnelly. It’s understood that Dec had been aware to a certain extent that Ant had problems but he was taken aback when Ant revealed how bad things really were.

Once Dec had been told he immediately started contacting counsellors and arranging help for his friend.

A source said:  “Dec is determined to do everything possible to help Ant, he won’t just leave him to sort out his own problems. It would have been easy for Dec to worry about their brand and the damage this could do to their careers but he didn’t think about that at all — he cares about Ant as a friend and wants to help him.”

Yesterday Ant publicly admitted he had a problem, while also revealing that he has been suffering from depression – which had led him to his addictions.

Ant told The Sun: “I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I am truly sorry. I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends for helping me through this really difficult time.

“I’ve spoken out because I think it’s important that people ask for help if they’re going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery.”

Ant is expected to remain in rehab for at least two months, giving him plenty of time to get better as both he and Dec don’t have other work commitments until November when I’m A Celebrity returns.
