Tonight it was the live quarter-final of The Voice UK and nerves among the contestants were running high.
With twelve contestants remaining and only eight places in next week’s semi-final, the pressure was on to pull off an assured performance.
Team Will were the first contestants to perform tonight and Tanya Lacey took to the stage first. She sang ‘Good Luck’ and certainly opened the show in style, earning her positive comments from the judges – but would she make it through?
Jason Jones was up next and he performed The Weeknd’s ‘Feel It Coming’. He gave it his all and also received great comments from the judges.
The last member of Team Will, Michelle John was up next and her powerful performance of ‘I’m Every Woman’ brought the house down.
Then it was decision time for Will. Each judge was able to choose one of their acts to go straight through to next week’s semi-final. Will chose to send Jason through, meaning that Tanya and Michelle were up for the public vote.
Team Tom were up next and it was the turn of Craig Ward. His performance of ‘All These Things I’ve Done’ was a tribute to his wife and child. The judges praised his fantastic performance and he did his wife proud, as The Killers are her favourite band!
Next up was Nadine McGhee, who Tom saved at the end of The Knockouts round. After a song change she pulled off an assured performance of George Michael’s ‘A Different Corner’. A beautiful tribute to George, but would it be enough for her to get through?
Welsh duo Into the Ark were the last members of Team Tom to take to the stage. They sang ‘Jealous’ and pulled off a unique and stunning performance.
It was then time for Tom to make his decision. He voted Into The Ark through, meaning that Craig and Nadine were also up for the public vote.
Team Gavin were the penultimate team to perform and it was Max Vickers who was up first. He rocked the stage yet again, with his performance of ‘Lonely Boy’ – with Will adding that he’s a big fan.
Truly Ford then performed ‘Lights’ by Ellie Goulding and her unique voice really shone through. It was clear to see how much she loved being on stage, but would she make it through?
The youngest contestant in the competition, Sarah Morgan, then performed ‘Royals’ and she owned the stage – Gavin had a tough choice to make!
Then, it was decision time! Gavin opted to save Truly, meaning that Max and Sarah’s fate was in the public’s hands.
Last up was Team Jennifer and Jamie Miller was the first member of her team to perform. His version of ‘Love On The Brain’ earned him a standing ovation from the whole studio.
Jack Bruley, who Jennifer saved last week, was next up and he performed Maroon 5’s ‘This Love’. After reassurance from the judges he hoped he’d done enough to make it through to the semi-final.
The last contestant to perform was Mo, who performed a Bob Dylan classic ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Door’. His emotional performance yet again earned him an amazing reaction from the audience and judges.
Jennifer then made the last decision of the night. She gave Mo a guaranteed place in next week’s show, meaning that Jamie and Jack also had to rely on the public vote.
Before the results were announced, Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson performed their new track ‘Symphony’.
Then it was the moment of truth! Emma revealed that Craig, Max, Jamie and Michelle had been saved by the public, meaning that Tanya, Nadine, Sarah and Jack narrowly missed out on a place in next week’s semi-final.
The Voice UK returns next Saturday at 8:30pm on ITV1 for the semi-final.
