First pictures emerge of the old Coronation Street set being demolished

It’s a sad day for Coronation Street fans (and crew) as their old set is finally being demolished.

Following Coronation Street’s move to their new set in MediaCityUK back in March 2014, the old set is finally being demolished after a numbers of years laying idle.

First pictures can see the iconic Weatherfield building being torn to the ground, with years of iconic TV movements going with it.

Speaking about the set being bulldozed, an onlooker told Manchester Evening News: “It’s like a soap graveyard in a way, if you think of all the characters who’ve walked up and down there over the years. It’s a piece of TV history.”

Meanwhile, the new Corrie set is going to be bigger than ever as bosses plan a new extension, following the announcement that ITV will air six weekly episodes from later this year.

For now though, Coronation Street continues on ITV.
