The National Television Awards is back for another spectacular awards evening to celebrate the exceptional talent that is on our TV screens at the moment.
This year four new categories have been added and the shortlist for the 21st National Television Awards has been unveiled.
For the New Drama category, four will battle out for the award such as Poldark, Ordinary Lies, Doctor Foster and Humans, while Casualty, Broadchurch, Downtown Abbey and Doctor Who will battle it out for Best Drama.
In the Drama performance field, David Tennant from Broadchurch will battle it out against Sheridan Smith from Black Work, Surranne Jones for Doctor Foster and Aidan Turner from Poldark.
An NTA for Best Talent show will go to either Strictly Come Dancing, X Factor, The Voice UK and Britain’s Got Talent as Ant and Dec are yet again nominated in the best Entertainment presenter category in an attempt to continue their 14-year winning Entertainment Presenter streak in the new TV Presenter category against Mel and Sue, Graham Norton and Rylan.
Ant and Dec will also be battling it out in the Best Entertainment show as Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! take on The Graham Norton Show and Celebrity Juice.
Bear Grylls: Mission Survive competes in the Challenge Show field against long-running efforts The Apprentice, MasterChef and The Great British Bake Off, while Factual Entertainment will go to DIY SOS: The Big Build, Gogglebox, Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs or Top Gear.
Two new categories that have been introduced this year are Newcomer and Serial Drama Performance and this includes the likes of Emmerdale’s Gemma Atkinson, EastEnders’ Richard Blackwood, Hollyoaks’ Parry Glasspool and Corrie’s Alison King.
Public voting for the second rounds is open and the results from the first round will be added to the votes in the second round. So if you want to see your favourites win an NTA you had better get voting!
The winners will be revealed on January 20 at the ceremony, hosted by Dermot O’Leary, live on ITV from The O2 in London.
